There are weight loss options beyond bariatric surgery.

Medical weight loss is an option for patients who do not qualify for bariatric surgery or have had bariatric surgery and have regained some weight.

A comprehensive obesity treatment plan with medications is more effective than diet and exercise alone. This is because it addresses the hormonal and metabolic reasons patients have trouble losing weight. Physical activity and nutrition are vital are important for weight loss and overall health as well.

If you have a BMI higher than 27, you may be a candidate for medical weight loss intervention.

Weight Loss Medications

Semaglutide has been used to treat type 2 diabetes for years but has recently been approved by the FDA to help manage weight (along with diet and exercise) in overweight or obese individuals.

Semaglutide is a once-weekly medication that is injected under the skin at any time of day, with or without food. It is important to note that semaglutide should be injected on the same day each week for optimal results.

Semaglutide is generally well tolerated by most patients. The most common side effects are GI symptoms.

Tirzepatide is one of the newest prescription medications on the market for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and weight loss. Along with a healthy diet and regular exercise, tirzepatide (like semaglutide) can help those with a BMI of 28 or higher experiencing weight-related health conditions shed excess weight quickly and effectively.

Similar to semaglutide, tirzepatide is a weight loss medication that is injected once weekly under a soft portion of the skin and can be taken either with or without food. Tirzepatide should be administered around the same time on the same day each week for optimal results.

Tirzepatide works in a similar way to semaglutide, helping to suppress appetite and break down sugars and fats within the body more easily to facilitate weight loss. Mild side effects of tirzepatide include gastrointestinal upset; however, the medication is typically well tolerated by most patients.

We work with a compounding pharmacy to offer customized versions of the most effective weight loss medications currently available. Compounded weight loss medications can combine traditional weight loss medications with vitamins and supplements. Compounded formulas offer the same results as traditional pharmaceuticals, but with better availability, customization, and lower pricing.
